Our first venture out in the old Istanbul (Sultanahmet) was to the Spice Market. The Spice Bazaar was built in the 17th century, once the Egyptian market where the merchants sold their wares from Egypt. It is now a market with mostly spices, herbs, medicinal plants, coffee sellers, and shops full of Turkish sweets.
We lasted for a lunch with a view of the Bosphorus before we crashed at the hotel and didn't surface until the following day.
Our 2nd day in Instanbul started at the crack of dawn. (that jet lag will take few days ) We started our day visiting the Topkapi Palace. the Topkapi Palace stands on the ruins of Byzantium, the ancient Greek settlement at the eastern tip of the Old Town peninsula. After capturing Constantinople, Ottoman Sultan Mehmet the Conqueror chose this location overlooking the Sea of Marmara, the Bosphorus and the Golden Horn.
This was the Sultan's residence for over 400 years, Harem included.
